| A career Marine, Staff Sergeant Jon Schmidt was on leave in Pennsylvania at the time of the Outbreak. With his unit recalled to Camp Lejeune, the 3rd Battalion of the 6th Marine Regiment was dispatched to Piedmont City to assist Company Mercenaries with heavy fire support and tasked with keeping supply lines open. After receiving a distress call from a Company fire team engaged heavily in the city sewers, Schmidt's Kilo company was dispatched to provide covering fire for the merc team's retreat. What ultimately took place is a secret Schmidt will likely take to his grave, as he's the only one to have returned from the sewers that fateful day. He returned to find 3/6's Firebase Alpha a smoking crater, the apparent result of a demon assault.
Alone, he turned to the Company to finance his personal vendetta on his bitter foes.
Schmidt's worldview is somewhat cynical and stoic. He shows little emotion, and when he does, it's usually a sarcastic wisecrack. When asked how he could still laugh after facing the hardships of Piedmont and Hell's Gate City, he was heard to reply, "Sometimes you just have to laugh to keep from crying."
